Developing accessible and SCORM-compliant training

Problem

The Arc of Texas‘ existing training resources were fragmented and did not meet the accessibility standards required for diverse learning needs. Additionally, there was a lack of interactive and multimedia content that could engage users effectively and ensure knowledge retention.

Solution

The solution was to create a one-hour, SCORM-compliant online course designed in Articulate. The development process included:

  • Course Design: The course was structured to cover key areas such as understanding IDD, empathy training, and practical support strategies. It was designed to be fully accessible, with captions, audio descriptions, and screen reader compatibility.

  • Content Development: Utilizing Articulate, the team developed interactive content including:

    • Short, engaging video segments featuring real-life scenarios.
    • Interactive quizzes to assess comprehension.
    • Audio narrations to enhance understanding and accessibility.
  • SCORM Compliance: The course was developed to be SCORM-compliant, ensuring it could track learner progress and integrate seamlessly with various Learning Management Systems (LMS).

Benefits

The course was rolled out as part of a pilot program to a select group of stakeholders, including caregivers, healthcare professionals, and educators across Texas. It was hosted on The Arc of Texas’ dedicated LMS platform.

Positive feedback was received, highlighting the course's interactivity and the relevance of the content. Many users appreciated the practical applications and easy-to-understand resources.

Seamless Delivery

The introduction of a Learning Management System (LMS) significantly enhanced the delivery of training content, making it more organized, accessible, and trackable. Plus, it enabled precise tracking of participant progress and engagement, ensuring that all stakeholders received consistent and comprehensive training.
